About us

The Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra is made up of 70 local musicians with a professional conductor and leader. We are set up as a charity.  Our aim is to make live orchestral music available locally, so we are delighted to share some audience reactions to our most recent performance:

"It is so good to see so many talented musicians, of all ages, playing together a variety of music, with such skill and musicianship, and of course, under the baton of their great conductor, Darrell Davison."

"His (Darrell's') 'Garden of Delights' was an 'ear-opening' experience .. a terrific, entertaining and musical experience."

"The Orchestra were superb in playing the Symphonic Dances - one of their best performances for a long time. Everything about it was spot on."

"To me the test of any performance is when one - in the nicest possible way - forgets the artistry and dedication of the performers and engages directly with the music and the composers. Yesterday evening you enabled us to do exactly that."

"the 3rd movement of the Rachmaninov was a TOUR DE FORCE, Wow…!!"

"We liked the soloist who had the right kind of creamy voice for Strauss' last songs, which are an intensely moving farewell to his composing and, indeed, life."

"In performance terms only the very best will do for this very complex and challenging programme, and we were offered exactly that."

Our three subscription concerts each season focus particularly on 19th and 20th century masterpieces which are attractive and enjoyable for our audiences, and at the same time interesting and challenging for us as players. In addition we present our very popular Family Concert in October, a sell-out highlight of the year and we are absolutely thrilled to be back performing to an audience of excited children and families!

Most of our concerts take place in the Stag Sevenoaks, our local theatre. We rehearse each Wednesday at Sevenoaks Primary School, on Bradbourne Park Road. If you are an instrumentalist thinking of joining the orchestra, please use the Contact us page
