![]() Play for Pleasure 2007Having had to postpone our Barbecue in June because of the inclement weather (it was men's final day at Wimbledon, after all), this was rearranged to follow our 'Play for Pleasure' on Sunday 9th September, and the combination seemed to work well. Elgar's 1st Symphony was on the menu for the first of these two events, chosen in recognition of the 150th anniversary of his birth. The pre-break rehearsal got under way in the way we have all come to know and love, i.e. somewhere in the middle of one of the hardest passages. What the newcomers and visiting players thought of this is anybody's guess, but it is great to see that most of them seem to have taken it all in their stride and have stayed with us to begin work on Mahler's 5th! After a fantastic spread of refreshments (thank you Jo!) the symphony was played through with gusto (even if Elgar didn't quite specify that), and got us in just the mood to celebrate with a slap up meal at 'Greentrees'. | Upcoming eventsOrchestral Concert
