Darrell Davison won the Barbirolli Conducting Prize in 1979, since when he has conducted all the major London orchestras and recorded with the BBC and London Symphony Orchestras.
As a composer, he has had works performed by the Philharmonia and London Philharmonic Orchestras and has written and orchestrated film scores for the LSO.
Darrell has now been at the helm of the SSO for more than 35 years, and under his guidance we have tackled increasingly ambitious programmes which have been warmly received.
Catherine Smart, who has now been leading the SSO for more than 30 years, gained her first orchestral experience as leader of the Croydon Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and went on to play with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as sub-principal, and with the BBC Radio Orchestra.
Catherine is leader of the Stringendo string quartet, a member of the English National Ballet Philharmonic and plays with various London ensembles.
She also works as an ABRSM examiner and trauma therapist.
